Community Engagement

Our mission is to equip and engage locally-rooted community leaders. We come alongside the community with year-round and periodic programs, all aimed to enact change for the better. From monthly Food Distributions and parent programming to our annual 5Dollar 5K, community engagement and investment is the heartbeat of our work.

Thanks to our partnership with Capital Area Food Bank, we mobilize a volunteer force to provide food to over 250 households each month. We’ve been serving since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and haven’t stopped! Food distribution takes place every third Saturday of the month, starting at 7:30am.

Every third Thursday of the month, we host Family Dinner at the Willston Center. This is an opportunity for the families we serve to learn about a variety of topics that promote the health and well-being of our community. Teens serve our meal, and after eating together, children will do crafts and play a game while parents engage in discussion over our topic of the month.

If you would like to be a table facilitator (Fluent in Spanish required) or are interested in volunteering in childcare for Family Dinner, please contact Hannah for more information.

*only open to families currently involved in Comunidad programming

Family Dinners

Equipped

Equipped is a year round leadership effort that provides parent-leaders (21+) from the community with tools to engage their community. Comunidad works to provide parent-leaders with opportunities and platforms to create change which directly impacts their families. This program supports each leader in the journey by guiding them to determine next steps towards success and building bridges to internal or external resources.

Our annual 5Dollar 5K takes place every fall at Bluemont Park in Arlington. Registration is free for children and just $5 for runners 12 years and older. To get involved as a sponsor or volunteer for the race, contact admin@comunidadva.org
