Ricardo, one of our community youth leaders, and Jonathan are two high schoolers collaborating to start a new Rising Leaders effort: Willston Web Developer Training. This will be the first training of its kind for youth in our community, and it all started with a conversation between friends. 

Ricardo shared with Jonathan about his work in retail. Ricardo in turn, asked Jonathan what kind of work he did outside of school. When Ricardo learned that Jonathan is trained in web development and is able to maintain websites as a student and while working from home, he asked if Jonathan would be willing to teach him how to do web development. At the time, Jonathan was looking to teach others and share his knowledge, so he jumped at this opportunity to help teach his friend and include others. Ricardo didn’t think twice at the chance to learn a new skill and have flexibility in his work. 

This summer (June 2022) Ricardo and Jonathan will launch our first web development training for high school students! 

When speaking to Ricardo, it made perfect sense to invite other students his age to be part of this. He said, " ...this could be an easy way to make money in your space, at home, while you take care of your brothers or sisters." Jonathan called us and articulated a desire to help train the first cohort of Willston Web students and provide a one year mentorship to the top student in Willston Web.
